Storage FAQ — Five Star Self Storage Lenoir

Have questions about storing at Five Star Self Storage in Lenoir? Here are answers to the most common ones. Call (828) 754-8349 if you don't see your question.

What unit sizes do you offer at Five Star Self Storage?

Standard drive-up sizes 5x10 through 10x30, plus climate-controlled units (unique to Five Star in our local portfolio). Outdoor parking is available for boats, RVs, trailers, and other vehicles. Our larger units work well as contractor garage and flex space.

What are your gate access hours?

Our gate is open 6 AM to 10 PM every day, seven days a week. Your unique gate code lets you in and out anytime within those hours.

How do I rent a unit?

The fastest way is online at our Rent Now page — pick a unit, sign electronically, pay, and get your gate code immediately. To rent over the phone, call (828) 754-8349.

Do you require a long-term contract?

No. All units rent month-to-month with no long-term commitment. You give a 30-day notice when you're ready to move out — no early termination fees.

Is there a security deposit?

No security deposit. You pay your first month's rent and any applicable admin fee at signup.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and debit cards. Most customers set up automatic monthly billing. Cash and check payments can be arranged with the office in advance — call ahead.

Can I store a boat, RV, or trailer here?

Yes. Outdoor parking is available for boats, RVs, trailers, and other vehicles in addition to our climate-controlled and drive-up indoor units.

What about contractor equipment, business inventory, or commercial use?

Yes — we work with contractors, tradespeople, landscapers, and small businesses needing contractor garage and flex space. The larger units work well as a small commercial bay at a fraction of typical lease costs.

Do I need to bring my own lock?

We require a disc lock — padlocks aren't accepted because they're easier to cut. For your convenience, a quality disc lock is already placed in your unit and available for $15. If you'd prefer to use a disc lock you already own — or buy your own at Lowe's, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Walmart, or Tractor Supply — just return the unit's lock to our lock dropbox. You're the only one with the key — we don't keep copies.

What if I'm moving from out of state or need long-term storage?

You can reserve and rent a unit online from anywhere before you arrive, get the gate code in advance, and pull straight in when your moving truck shows up. Month-to-month means you keep the unit as long as you need.

How do you handle late payments?

Rent is due on the first of each month. You'll get reminder messages by email and text if a payment is missed. Late fees apply per our rental agreement. If a unit becomes delinquent for an extended period, North Carolina self-storage law allows the facility to auction the contents — we work hard to reach customers before that. Call us anytime if you're in a tough month.

Are you locally owned?

Yes. Five Star Self Storage is locally owned and operated. When you call (828) 754-8349, you reach a local team member — not a national call center.

What's the difference between climate-controlled and standard drive-up storage?

Climate-controlled units keep temperature and humidity in a stable range year-round, which matters for items sensitive to extremes — musical instruments, electronics, leather goods, antiques, fine art, books, photographs, vinyl records, wine, and wood furniture. Standard drive-up units are fine for most household items, tools, and seasonal goods, but they follow outdoor temperature and humidity. Five Star Self Storage Lenoir is the climate-controlled option in the local portfolio.

What kinds of items should I put in climate-controlled storage?

Items that don't handle heat, cold, or humidity well: instruments (guitars, pianos, brass), electronics and computers, photographs and important documents, books, wood furniture, antiques, fine art and paintings, leather goods, vinyl records, wine, fabric items like wedding dresses, and anything with adhesives that can fail in heat. Items that DON'T need climate control: most kitchenware, tools, outdoor gear, seasonal sports equipment, and standard furniture you're storing short-term.

Is Five Star the right choice for Blowing Rock second-home owners?

For climate-controlled storage of valuables — yes. Five Star is the closest climate-controlled facility to Blowing Rock (28605). If you're storing instruments, art, antiques, leather goods, or anything sensitive that you don't want to leave in a mountain home through winter or summer extremes, Five Star is the right call. For RVs, boats, and outdoor vehicles, see Northstar Self Storage just up the road — same ownership.
